February 29 to March 4

Homework—Must Do
  • 30 minutes of reading (silent or partner) at least 3 times per week
  • 10 minutes of basic fact work (times tables!) at least 3 times per week
  • lack of knowledge of basic facts is slowing down progress in fractions and ratios for many students—please ensure that your child is adhering to the schedule above

This week:
  • The Elementary Mock Trial Project begins on Tuesday, when volunteers from the University of Calgary will be at BelPark to educate our students about the practical applications of the legal system.
  • On Friday, we have a field trip to the law offices of McCarthy Tétrault and the Calgary Courts Centre. McCarthy Tétrault will also be treating our students to a pizza lunch at their offices (kids will need snacks and water bottles).
  • We will not be having Zones of Regulation this week because of the mock trial project. Instead, we will have our final session with Matthew Miller next week.

Next week:
  • We will be watching the film adaptation of Lost in the Barrens and beginning a project looking at the book and film versions.
  • We will be having our ninth and final Zones of Regulation session with Matthew Miller.
  • On Wednesday, we will be heading downtown for the City of Calgary's Safety Expo.
  • There will be an early dismissal on Friday.
  • We decided as a class to read the sequel to Lost in the Barrens, entitled The Curse of the Viking Grave. We are looking forward to beginning that novel right after Spring Break!

Ask Me:
